Brazil has reduced its oil dependency by half and its economy did not go into the toilet. Same with Europe.....

I'm not sure why you equate "hurt the economy" with having the economy "go into the toilet".


If that's all you meant by "hurt the economy", then let me point out to you that oil at $60 per barrel is already hurting the economy. Now what would rather have.......an economy that's hurting because we are cutting oil dependency by half but where the unspent $$$ stays in the country, or one that is hurting because oil prices are too high and money is going to the Saudis et al to pay for that oil?
