I'm pretty sure Mars will be a Chinese colony. They just orbited some guys the other day..

Which is really sad. After we reached the moon, I was sure we'd have had a colony there by now, and have already completed several manned missions to Mars by now. Once we "beat" the Russians, manned space exploration seemed to lose all value for us, and now the moment for us has passed. Good luck to the Chinese - they seem to have a much longer term plan than we do.

I don't believe that is or should be our number one national priority.

Forget Mars.

OTOH it would be a lot more useful in the short and medium term than anything we do on or about Mars. (In the very long term Mars might be more important than out use of gasoline but that would most likely be long after everyone currently on this thread has died.)
