I agree 100% - like I said the other day, this thread is premised on creating an environment where bashing and hatred are forbidden to the extent possible on a political thread. Sometimes I see things very close to the line and let them go. Other times people cross the line and a warning suffices.

But I am absolutely convinced that a political ideology based on "rah rah my guys!" and "%^&# the bastards on the other side!" is bankrupt.

If it weren't, Bush would have a 65% approval rating and Karl Rove would be his designated successor in 2008.

Guess what?

There are threads on SI that have a very similar format. People are always pretending to vomit on SI. It seems to be a fairly common human activity- bonding through shared exaggerated indignation. People are lonely- and it's a short cut to reach out to people over "cartoon" issues- and I use the word "cartoon" to describe issues from which people have stripped away all nuance, and to which they have assigned a colorful, and completely one dimensional value.

I find it boring (and stupid), but we all want different things out of life.
