clapster,

five minutes ago i was explaining the future of nanotechnology as i understand it to a friend over the phone. we talked about having a machine on our kitchen table that could destruct and reconstruct anything into anything. anything that we could dream possible.

we talked about singularity and our becoming another node on the internet. the second or third generation of internet. one where we could choose what to integrate with and what not to integrate with. i could have a conversation with my friend with no phone. constantly connected or not to him or her or them.

i said goodbye and came to si and read your post. surprised me after talking to him about this for over an hour.

imagine a connection in real time to nnbm cantina. drop in and glance around to see who is home. notice how beautiful the landscape is at mannie's job. or see the new garden planted at rose's. and do this just from telling ourself we want to connect. as long as there connection is open. and we visually see this and hear this.

that is how i understand the concept of singularity to be. ultimately this will certainly take a long time to achieve. maybe even one hundred years. sure, right, never gonna happen. not in a thousand years.

maybe so. to think that i would be sitting here typing on this keyboard and connecting into houses in canada, business computers in taiwan or corporate headquarters in new york was something i would not have believed if you told me it would happen twenty years ago.

i even wonder if ultimately we as humans will choose to house this consciousness into a vessel that can last for hundreds of years and can be grown or changed into any shape that would better suit our needs.

whoaaaaaaa. only god can do that. right?

perhaps singularity is god.
