That call was brutally bad.

This morning on San Francisco morning radio, Jon Miller was interviewed. He said that after he and Joe Morgan finished the broadcast, they went out to the network truck to talk to the director of the telecast. The director said that the umps had come out to the truck to view the replay before going to their press conference. When viewing a replay, the plate ump commented "There, the ball switched directions when it hit the ground", to which the director replied "What on earth are you looking at?" The director then blew up the shot, clearly showing that the ball never touched the ground, and the umps stayed silent. The umps then went into the press conference and claimed that replays showed the ball changing direction when it hit the ground.

On the other hand, Mike Scioscia has the right attitude about this; he needs to make sure his players don't dwell on a call they can't change, and are ready to win tomorrow. I give him high marks for keeping his head on straight.

I am enjoying both the White Sox and Angel's pitchers. They have so much talent and such different styles...it's a blast to watch them work.

Let's hope for better officiating.

I couldn't really care less about the playoffs now either ... Something's missing for me. I don't know what. I live in Chicago too. But I still don't care. I need the Yankees or Red Sox in the playoffs to get my attention these days that baseball is no longer played in Pittsburgh. The Cubs occasionally get me fired up.

I was watching that White Sox-Angels game the other day courtesy of TiVo. God bless that device. It lets you watch an NFL game in an hour and a baseball game in about an hour and a half. I saw that crazy call that ended up deciding Game 2 for the White Sox.

What a bunch of crap! Everyone messed up. Sadly, the third string catcher could have avoided the problem if he had just tagged the batter out. We should keep in mind that the White Sox may have eventually won the game anyway. Regardless, that was a rather incompetent call. The safest and most sensible route would have been to call the batter out. The umpire generated a totally ridiculous controversy. The White Sox manager wouldn't have even argued the call.
