I'm fairly new to the subject and biologically ignorant, but have been watching for several years since Gwynne Dyer wrote an article on it in the late 1990s or thereabouts. I have heard of cytokines but would need to ask Google what the heck they look like, and eBay how much they cost and whether a cytokine storm is more like Katrina or a monsoon.

All I can do is use information and reasoning to figure out what's going on.

Why would most influenzas not cause a cytokine storm? I didn't know they had cytokine measuring techniques back in 1918. Maybe they could infer that somehow. I suppose they can easily measure it these days in those currently infected, and work out how best to treat them, which I guess has included Tamiflu, which has only kept alive half those afflicted.

I put some more data in my previous post on old people numbers in Vietnam. Have a look.
