The answer to your question is Z, not A or B.

You sidestepped my question, so I can only conclude you were afraid to admit walking over the border to Mexico with no ID is a much easier way to flee the US than flying from post 9-11 NY to AZ (which is part of the US) using a fake ID. Come on now, this is a no-brainer.

You appear to be getting bogged down in the minutia, like how unreasonable it is Tony couldn't unload all his jewelry in NY. Well, he couldn't unload it on EBay or in Florida either. For all we know he advertised it poorly, people thought the jewelry was stolen, or he didn't try hard enough. But, for sake of argument, let's go with your theory that (despite the documented proof on EBay) all the above is a lie. How does this help us?

Tony is essentially saying he made a really stupid error in judgment because he wanted to get back home a couple of days earlier to see his family and didn't want to waste a travel coupon. You are essentially saying the guy knew exactly what he was doing-- that he was in the middle of his master plan to flee the country. What could this plan possibly have been? I'm serious. I'm not afraid to change my mind if presented with a compelling reason to.

Saying "I don't know" is a cop out. That's just another way to say "prove me wrong", which is impossible and accomplishes nothing. Saying "because the government says so" is also a cop out; after all, the jury actually rejected most of the government's charges.

So do yourself a favor and think an entire scenario through and see if it makes sense enough to post. Be sure to include: 1) why someone so, as many portray him, brazen, brash, self-confident, defiant, and not afraid to lie to save his ass would attempt to flee in the first place, especially one devoted to his kids and who has already spent millions on legal fees, 2) a reasonable explanation for why Tony spent all that time in NY if his goal was to flee the country, and 3) why he didn't also have a phony passport on him as well which one would need to fly to a foreign country.

Good luck and have fun.
