Nice theory Gustave. It's a little skewed by distance. Having lived in a barrio in CA and currently in Salt Lake City, let me break it down for you. Hispanics, the fastest growing immigrant group due to our southern border and the opportunity disparity between Mexico and parts south and the US, ARE "taking over" in a fashion. A hispanic just became mayor of LA. Since the majority of people IN LA county are hispanic, it's only as it should be.

But, who ARE these hispanics? By the third generation in this country, most of them no longer speak Spanish! They regard themselves as Americans, because they ARE Americans. In my experience, hispanics experience little discrimination here compared to blacks, and their opportunities aren't closed off. One of the things that make me proudest of my country is that ANYONE with the drive to do so can become an American.

Sadly, many of them vote Repugnican and voted for Bush - they seem to embrace authoritarian, "daddy" politics. Are they changing the country? Sure. Are they "taking over" - no. They're being assimilated into the American Borg, just like every other wave of immigrants before them.

Your fantasy of oppressed minorities rising up and throwing off the shackles of the oppressors is cute, but it's a fantasy.
