ElM, you are speaking to the converted. But just because what you say is true, doesn't mean there aren't any threats which are real. There really was a vast plague in Europe a few hundred years ago. There really are big splashdowns, earthquakes, volcanoes, floods and mass deaths by microbes.

H5N1 is still not on the rampage and it's only thanks to modern investigative skills and communications that we are even aware that something is going on.

It could well fizzle out as sars did [as far as we know].

But it's not a good bet to depend on that given the consequences if the next step of H5N1 is the right one.
