Alt-fuels group plans to celebrate petroleum savings
Despite sky-high gas prices, or maybe because of them, one group says there is finally a reason to celebrate.

The Valley of the Sun Clean Cities Coalition is celebrating the billionth gallon of petroleum saved nationwide, thanks to the use of alternative fuels.

One billion gallons of gasoline is enough fill up 2 million cars for a year.

The U.S. imports approximately two-thirds of the petroleum it uses. At $68 per barrel, that's $300 billion per year for imported crude oil; of which $200 billion is for the transportation sector alone.

Clean Cities Coalition officials note that more than $3.5 billion is spent each week by the U.S. to fuel the economies of other countries and they would rather see that money invested in domestic fuels, including ethanol and biodiesel.

A celebration event is planned for Friday at the Energy East CNG Fuel Site at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

The Clean Cities program, part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office, focuses on alt-fuels and hybrid electric vehicle use and trip reduction incentives. The program currently operates in 88 U.S. cities.

Bushies should all smoke pot. That would end war, gas gouging and pollution pretty quickly. Bush's problem is that his drugs of choice were booze and coke. Turns you into a maniacal BS artist.
