It's not our business to invade countries and kill people for democracy (if you can't see that invading a country for "democracy" is like screwing for virginity, I think you are seeing things in a fairly weird fashion). And many of the mass graves date from a period of time when we (the US) were happily using Saddam, even though we knew what a naughty naughty man he was. Finessing that point, are you?

I think everyone (well everyone I know) agrees Saddam was a bad leader, the question is whether other states have the right to invade countries simply because they have a bad leader. Our administration clearly didn't think so, which is why they whipped up the spurious pretext that Iraq was a "danger". Now that the props have fallen from that pretext, you and your rightie confederates must use the "humanitarian" justification for invasion. Not only is the outcome unlikely to be beneficial (in terms of "democracy"), but it's killed quite the boatload of Iraqis on the way, and really screwed the country to shite. I realize you think the US was a great humanitarian here, but I bet if the Iraqis had been asked before the invasion "Would you like the US to invade your country, and give you a country that has... (insert all the problems they have now here), they would have voted against being invaded. Very few people WANT to be invaded, even by a country as wonderful as you imagine the US to be. Invaders just aren't the godsends you seem to think they are Michael. Sucks to be an invader, doesn't it Michael?

>>"On the other hand, some may sting cling to the U.N. belief that back door oil deals with Saddam would have created the environment where he valued democracy, and prevented his genocidal nature from seeing the light of day."<<

No you idiot...many of us "lefties" think that continued overflying 2/3rds of Iraq, continued inspections, troops in Kuwait plus heightened world resolve would have done the job and that is what we had before that insane invasion so Bush could get his family revenge.

"Actually, after examining the evidence of hundreds of mass graves, I was being conservative in regard to the numbers."

You are aware that Iraq fought a ten year, brutal war with Iran, with us supporting both sides? It created a HUNDREDS of mass graves..
