As far as IBM, I think they not a very likely acquirer. SGI uses Itanium, IBM would rather see Itanium die (which would leave POWER as an undisputed champ of high end processors). IBM went as far as largely discontinue their Itanium business.

HP would be a much better fit, since HP is one of the backers of Itanium.
