gcrispin - re FMD. you are absolutely correct with your response regarding FMD's student loan residuals and the 12% discount rate is what i remember too from FMD's SEC statements. Only the future will show if FMD's assumption is correct - if they are you are going to make money on your position.

Took a flyer on FMD @24.65 today on big dip and Tom Brown's reasoned response: bankstocks.com
I say flyer because I don't understand it as well as I should and am thus depending on the "kindness of strangers."
