Sweden sports an amazingly high birth rate at the top of Western Europe.

Believe Italy is at the very bottom.


Both rates of very low both are slightly above the rate needed to replace the existing population......but like you said, Sweden's is higher at 10.36 per 1000; Italy's is 8.89 per 1000. The rate for the US is 14.14 per 1000. At 8.33, German's rate is at or slightly below replacement. At 9.07, the Czech Republic is below replacement.

These rates seem higher than they were 4 years ago. At that time, I remember more EU nations were at or below the replacement level. I am surprised that Italy [being a Catholic nation] has a birth rate considerably lower than Sweden's. Spain, another Catholic nation, is doing much better at 10.1.
