Generally, it's the kind of social jockeying women do from a very young age. It often goes under the term "cattiness".

I understand a good example is this female MBA that was just "fired" by Trump.

I see. No, I can't say that I've noticed catty women although I imagine there are some around, otherwise we wouldn't have the expression.

By and large, the women I've encountered have been collaborative. I remember cattiness from high school. I don't think I've been sheltered. I've dealt with a lot of workplace situations where people's cattiness would have shone through were it a factor. Of course, I've dealt mostly with professional women. Perhaps cattiness appears more on shop floors and beauty salons.
