Mostly what is objected to is the leap that since we postulate the formation and development of life using evolutionary theory, there is no need for God, and only stupid and anti-modern people believe in God now.

But evolution doesn't say that there is no need for God. People create that as a strawman and then jump all over evolution for claiming it, which it doesn't. Evolution simply explains how critters developed over a very long time. Once again, there's this bogeyman being created so that it's creators can play to the outrage. Lots of people accept both God and evolution with no conflict. I easily figured out how they cold both be true when I was just a little kid. I had assumed most people had, too, but apparently not.

Sorry if you find Karen Hughes offensive.

I am not offended by Karen Hughes. I don't know what left that perception. I was only making the point that in this day and age you'd have to be a nitwit or full of Kool-Aid to think evolution isn't happening. Given that I don't for a moment think she's a nitwit, I assume she accepts evolution. If she ever speaks about the risk of an evolved bird flu, she will be giving testimony to her acceptance of evolution. Concurrently, I am struck by the irony that so many will be sickened by a bug that according to their beliefs can't exist because it's evolved from something else. That's all I meant to say. Irony is a better word. It's the word I used when I made the same point the other day. Since you brought her name up, I thought the point might be more interesting personalized. Guess it didn't work.

I don't know anyone who doesn't accept evolution, either. I haven't a clue who those 53% are but they sure made an impression on me.
