Re: The most integrated of the major Western nations is the US. Europe would learn a lot if they studied what the US has done to promote race relations and encourage integration. I think the European nations are about 20 years behind the US in this area. Oh, no doubt about that! Indeed, Europe still has to set up her own Guantanamo camps to accomodate her unruly Muslim immigrants.... As I said, you Americans confuse multiCULTURALISM with multiRACIALISM and "integration" with "assimilation". Excuse me but we may not be far along in the integration process but Europe has even further to go. If you think otherwise, you are in huge denial. And the irony is that less then ten percent of your population is made of people of color. The US's been very good at assimilating ethnic minorities and turning them into black/latino/yellow/... Joe-SixPack's. When most of your Blacks, Chinese, Koreans, Native Americans, Hispanics, etc. speak English with a Texan twang, watch the Super Bowl, indulge in BBQs, and attend a Judeo-Protestant church, you tell the world how good you are at "integrating" other races... You say, look at our minorities, see how we've successfully "reprogrammed" them into non-white Joe SixPacks... and you erroneously call it "multiculturalism". But the truth is, you've only achieved a multiracial monoculture. Unlike Europeans, Americans don't have the faintest notion of a society where immigrants can regularly travel back home every other month, where (North) Africans keep wearing their traditional dresses (pagne[], jellaba,...), watch their satellite TV-channels instead of local networks, etc. And you know this because you travel to the US frequently? BTW I've noticed how tolerant Chirac was with Muslim women wearing head gear in public buildings in France. Is that one of your signs of EU's tolerant multiculturism policy? And Turks in Berlin can go back and forth to Turkey so long as when they get back they stay only in the one arrondissement they are permitted to live in that city. Europeans don't have to worry about the difference between integration and assimilation because neither are happening in Europe. So, my point is that, as far as multiculturalism is concerned, it's Europe that's a generation ahead of the US --especially when it comes to integrating Muslim minorities, however painfully.* Yeah, the integration is all in your head. ;') Re: A few years back I read an article by a US professor that saId the US would have no whites left by the 22nd century. I think the article was intended as a scare piece but it makes you wonder what they world would be like without whites. I think it would be a huge loss. Well, you seem to insinuate that a whiteless world would be but a hellish, decadent cesspool of sorts... an opinion you might want to discuss with Chinese people: Hmmm.......I thought you as a European were very much in favor of multiculturalism which by its very nature includes multiracism. However, now you criticize me for wanting to include the white race in the mix. Which is it, Mr. EU? You can't have it both ways. ted
