I've really never heard of the term "professional black"....or "professional white"...

I don't think I've ever heard anyone use the term in connection with whites. I was just trying to explain the broad concept with a variety of examples. I've seen it used mostly in terms of blacks, sometimes with gays. The usage was once prominent for women--I think that's the first context in which I saw it--not so much anymore. It's only recently that I've started to see the same reference to Christians. Perhaps I notice it more because the subject of extreme identity politics and PCness is hobby horse of mine.

I find it interesting that some people who see the hypersensitivity, defensive self-glorification, and persecution complexes in some identity groups don't see it in other groups. I don't know how much of that is bias and how much is hypocrisy but it ain't pretty either way.
