Did he? Actually, whoever did it - it probably would be correct to use the term "discovered", rather than "invented"... -bg.

The ED is not really a new pattern... it is very well known in classical TA as - if I recall correctly my readings of Magee - a "bullish wedge with bearish implications" - and, vs. versa for declining wedges. ED in the EW is more specifically defined.

I tend to agree with your comment about W's and Y's. While it does make sense - since in an ABC-X-ABC the X is of the same degree as the first and the last "ABC"s, while the presentation appears to imply that all of the letters are the same. But simplicity may suffer... takes a while to get used to this.
