Frankly I believe in patents and, apparently, even the Chinese are starting to recognize the utility of patents now that they have some ideas of their own.

Patents protect the little guy as well as the big monster conglomerate so I don't think they're a bad thing. It's not a criminal act to ignore a patent, it just lets the patent holder go to court to defend its patent.

I can't imagine the US letting a pandemic take hold just because Roche can only let us have a coupla million doses. The UK has enough for 25% of its citizens....we don't.

Isn't there something in the same vein as emminent domain that lets the government seize private property (in this case the right to manufacture the drug) for the public good? I can't imagine that preventing a pandemic isn't a public good.

All-in-all, the healthcare system sucks. It's much too expensive and it still lets people die.
