MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital

The US army medics on Sunday were preparing to airlift a 56-bed mobile hospital from Germany to Pakistan within the next few days for what could be a long stay to help wounded earthquake survivors.

With 40 doctors and nurses capable of performing up to 20 operations a day and at the same time give emergency treatment to others with less serious injuries, the army is sending their MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) to the quake-hit region.

Colonel Angel Lugo, commander of the German-based 212th MASH, told journalists, "All our doctors are excited about helping the quake-hit people." The MASH has a crew of 200 that can expand the basic 36-bed hospital by 20 beds if required. Lugo said doctors could treat injuries within hours and operating rooms would be up and running in 12 to 24 hours. We are expecting a lot of delayed trauma injuries, crush injuries. We are ready for a long haul."

Sgt John Lesmerises, in charge of airlift logistics, said, "We were put on a state of readiness several days ago to provide medical support, we are prepared to go and will move within days."

And Iran wants..Saddam Hussein charged for war crimes..

Iran has asked the court trying Saddam Hussein for war crimes to charge the former Iraqi dictator with crimes from the 1980-88 Iran- Iraq war, including the alleged use of chemical weapons, an Iranian judiciary spokesman said Tuesday. Jamal Karimirad said the petition was filed through diplomatic channels Tuesday to the Baghdad court where Saddam goes on trial Wednesday. "The invasion of Iran in 1980 was definitely one of the crimes committed by Saddam. We want the court to investigate the charges brought by Iranian people," Karimirad told a press conference.
