Hitler used many Karl Rove type methods to gain power and hoodwink a nation into following him into the abyss. Smear campaigns, propaganda, disinformation, cover ups, dirty tricks, thuggish intimidation, scapegoating, false alerts about foreign dangers, exaggerated militarism, snubbing minorities, etc.

Of course Hitler went much farther than Rove, but Rove must have studied Hitler's political chief Goebbels closely.
