Which brings up an issue. Unless they consolidate many of the lots, there is no way to build a typical, ranch style home in much of New Orleans. The lots are just too narrow. While it should be possible to update the shotgun design to make low cost housing, I don't really see them doing that.

I suspect they will build mostly townhouses. However, it won't be a problem consolidating lots to build midrises or even rises depending on the zoning. Unfortunately, many of the poor folks who owned housing in the 9th ward have given up on NO and abandoned what's left of their houses. Their housing and lots will be foreclosed upon.....then a developer will come along and pay good money to the bank to buy up those lots. The city/state will have already cleared the land and the feds will build the levees to a CAT 5. The developers will make lots of money. And NO will no longer be mostly black.........and by the time construction is underway, will be booming.
