And when the successful experiment of democracy blooms throughout the Middle East it will be anti-war votes that haunt Democrats. Egyptians and Syrians and Iranians are looking at the elections in Iraq, and wondering why they can't do the same thing.

It's tough... it's why bad wars last so long. At the early stage when everybody is gung ho over shock and awe, it takes a hell of a lot of courage for a politician to be anti-war, and essentially be labeled a traitor. Later when the reality of body bags sets in, it hard to say "I was wrong". People don't like to hear that from politicians.


I can remember how pillored McDermott was for his anti war views. He couldn't stop the wave of war but instead was called every traitorous name in the book.
