My experience is the same. The ACLU has helped shove moderate Protestants and Catholics into the Republican column. There have been two big creche fights on city land over the last fifteen, twenty years in a community I visit a lot. You can argue it either way, but the bitterness and divisiveness it has created runs just under the surface and now informs 3 generations. Nobody's forgotten. Lawsuits were used to bludgeon the local government into obedience.
