Ah.

Well, whether it's a 'head fake' or not largely depends on your point of view, I guess.

It (Miers nomination) could be just a decision he made to avoid a knock-down drag-out fight that might imperil the passage of *other* legislation that he wants. That, and a chance to stamp a 'made by Bush II' label on the court, by going with a PERSONAL choice, a personal favorite of the man, a fellow Texan long in his camp.

After all, Bush II has always seemed rather 'head-strong', with a bit of the attitude of 'I'm the President, so it's my way or the highway'.

Maybe he also doesn't like being lectured to by either people on the 'Left' OR the 'Right'?

If Miers were to withdraw, I'll bet you that he'd nominate Gonzales right after.
