Karen,

I have no problem dropping a phrase from the Pledge added in the 50's, but there is a another issue here. Where does accommodation stop? Why must most of us accommodate some minority on every single issue?

There is a current push to get rid of the Red Cross - its inherent Christian name and symbol offend Muslims, the IRC will probably be renamed within the year.

While we are at it lets get rid of Christmas and Easter (woops that one is already off the Federal list of holidays).

But by the way - we need to accommodate Muslims in public schools given their requirements for multiple daily prayer.

Most of us have ancestors that fled Europe to be able to practice their religion in freedom. None of us want to be ruled by any specific religion or by militants who define themselves as anti-religious atheists (ever notice how similar they are to true believer zealots?).

John

Those speaking for the "community" should follow the current law on the Pledge. Then it is up to the individual, whether or not, they even want to say it, or any part of it.

If some people want to change the law, bring it up to our Representatives.....They have the power we have given them via our vote for them as our representative...to change the law....OR NOT to change the law.

I'm certain the people will speak to their Representatives if a change is proposed.

"What's with the "smart enough?"

Cute, in some eyes. Perhaps in "tryingtobeinigotchacity" maybe, but not too many other places.
