One thing though LTBH, ( I agree with Graham BTW) is that the trusts are set up so that less than (maybe Pengrowth is a bit different now with the change in share structure but I do not know) can be non residents. So at max theoretically just shy of 50% of the capital SB non Canadian ?? (of course how many Canucks even were aware of that until recently)...

Maybe we Canucks could not provide enough capital but I remember quite well starting in these a few years back when most folks said trusts what ?? not knowing and ROC from an FYI... Possibly the trusts themselves wanted to provide extra liquidity... I dunno.. I think the majority don't/didn't trade directly on US markets and US investors don't typically have the reciprocal luxury that we Canadians have with ease of access to US markets. Some were pioneers like Primewest and Pengrowth and dual listed (certainly an initiative sponsored by trust management and not Canadian government) but how many American are relegated to pink sheets to buy popular trusts like Acclaim and Advantage ?

I think it more likely the government was lobbied to allow for a % of foreign investment...

regards
