I feel very sorry for Ms. Miers. She is probably a very competent corporate attorney. Her clients obviously appreciate her attention and focus, and the quality of her advice. That is a large part of being a good attorney. But those attributes don't mean one is destined to be even an adequate Supreme Court Justice. Even minor foibles like failing to pay bar dues timely or not completing a questionairre completely make her "averageness" come to light. It is too bad, because she should not have been in the place to begin with....and I bet she knows it. But how do you say no the the President? Really, GWB should not have put her in this spot.
