Fine. Big government conservatives need to be defeated as badly and for the same reasons as big government liberals. Take away the big government, I probably have more in common with the liberals.

In short, I think Bush is a big government conservative, but he's still a conservative.

Bush and LBJ alone massively increased defense and nondefense spending. Perhaps not coincidentally, Bush and LBJ also shared control of the federal purse with congressional majorities from their own political parties.

This brings up an interesting question. If the Democrats had been in power in Congress during the last five years, would spending have been lower? Perhaps Bush could have brought himself to veto a bill or two....

Generally, I'm a believer in divided goverment. The less the federal goverment can do the better, plus it forces the two parties towards the middle to get anything passed.
