United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has criticized the amount of international aid for survivors of the recent earthquake in Pakistan as he called for more help for the regions where the lives of tens of thousands are still in danger.

At least 10,000 children in remote parts of the country will lose their lives in a few weeks unless vital necessities and helicopters are supplied.

A second wave of deaths will happen if the relief is not increased, Annan has warned, reiterating the need for 450,000 tents, two million blankets and sleeping bags along with temporary shelters.

Official figures indicate at least 47,000 deaths and 67,000 injuries and about three million homeless. Annan said that this has been the most difficult relief drive ever in terms of logistics.

Due to the onset of severe winter conditions, an emergency relief fund of $500 million or $1 billion is needed.
