The last time the country approached Two Thousand, it was just a year. This time it is the number of dead young Americans fighting an egotistic maniac's war.

In the final analysis it matters little that we broke it. If Iraq must find its own bloody path to stability, division, theocracy or whatever, and history says it must, then we should stop playing God and get the hell out of the way. As heartless as it may seem, we should allow them do what people have done throughout history; let them build their own path and their own future on the bodies of their own dead. They will anyway, the only question is how long we'll stand in the way and how many mother and fathers will lay awake at nights wondering, "Why?" Ed

For me, "fixing Iraq" is not about Iraq. It is about us. We have to undo the damage that we caused. We have to pay for what we did. No matter matter what the cost.

I am not a religious person, but by doing the right thing - I have faith that good things can happen.

You make it so complicated. You give all these reasons why Iraq is in turmoil. The reason why Iraq is in turmoil is because there are a lot of jerks running around with all kinds of excuses for doing whatever they are doing.

If we did the right thing, fix up their infrastructure, provide them with clean water, electricity, sanitation, and a security force - the jerks will still be doing what jerks do - but there will be a lot less of them.

If we did the right thing, it will give the Iraqi people a chance to find a way to live together peacefully.

People with diverse views and religions can live together peacefully. Iraqis are not stupid people. It is a serious civilization. If given half a chance, they can also get their act together.

In any case, we have to do the right thing, and the Iraqis will have a chance to get their stuff together.

I believe, given half a chance, they too can get it together - sort of.
