War is causing blowback?

What about the corruption of the various oil rich Gulf states who permit their young people to be brain-washed into committing suicide in order to fulfill some demented sexual fantasy (collecting 72 virgins in heaven)??

Why is it that over 85% of all suicide bombings in Iraq are committed by Saudis?

15 out of 19 of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi..

And Saudi Arabia is the birthplace of the Ihkwan, more commonly known as the Moslem Brotherhood, a creation of the first Saudi King 'Abd Al Aziz, under who's command they conquered the Arabian peninsula and spread their Luddite theology.

What about the British, who recognized 'Abd Al Aziz's right to rule Arabia so as to gain an ally against the Ottoman Turks?

Where's THEIR RESPONSIBILITY for the "blowback" that Bergen speaks of?

Isn't it bad enough that our country has had the responsibility of confronting Islamic militancy and "cleaning up" the mess left from British and French colonization in decades past, without our also having to bear the blame for somehow being seen as the causitive factor in the rise of Islamic Militancy?

One thing we should remember.. moral or political weakness and/or self doubt, in the face of these Islamic Militants, will only serve to hearten and encourage them.

And while we're discussing "blowback", what if the US had cowered and chose NOT to militarily confront Al Qai'da after 9/11, but rather.. treat it as a "criminal" matter and handled it through the courts?

I dare say that even MORE young Militant Muslims would have rallied to Bin Ladin's call for Jihad. It would have been evident to them that the US had become decadent and indecisive, incapable of defending itself against an enemy who spits on International Law and the United Nations.

Think about the momentum they would have if the US had done nothing but complain to the World Court for restitution??

That's the kind of Blowback that we should ALL fear.. Turn you back on this enemy and they'll put a knife in it (or more likely, slit your throat and display your head on Al Jazira).
