12:41PM Harmonic slumps in wake of Q3 loss report (HLIT) by Michael Baron
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Harmonic Lightwaves Inc. (HLIT) dropped 15.5% to $4.29 on Friday after the Sunnyvale, Calif., provider of broadband optical networking equipment posted a third-quarter loss before items of $2.6 million, or 4 cents a share, wider than a year-ago equivalent loss of $2 million, or 3 cents a share. The performance was in line with Wall Street's consensus loss estimate for the period. The company said its Convergent Systems unit saw reduced orders from a major customer in recent months. Looking ahead, Harmonic said it expects sales for the fourth quarter to be comparable to its total of $61 million in the third quarter. The company said this outlook includes continued shipments to a certain large domestic telco customer but it doesn't expect this customer to make significant shipments of products to this customer in 2006.
