Yes, it was gambling.

She started playing in larger amounts and did not keep close watch on her money. And also started playing other games that she hoped she would win playing, but lost. The euphoria got a hold of her and she went to the casinos a lot. With her winnings, they probably gave her a large line of credit so she always could get more money when she lost and also gave her a lot of amenities. She probably thought playing that much would bring her another big jackpot, which it didn't and just got her further in the hole. She told us she became so addicted and had been gambling a long time before that big win happened and she never thought it would happen to her. She was playing the $5 slots when she won and graduated up to the 25$ and $100 machines later. It sounded to me she was obsessed with winning it all back and thought she would. Didn't happen and she is now paying the price of that addiction.

We always meet our waiters or waitresses who are at the places we go to regularly. We were talking about the casinos in La. and Rita and she over heard us and told us her story. And if the service is excellent, we keep it on our list of places to dine in and if not, we try other places that have opened. We eat all of our evening meals out so are always looking for the good ones.

Saturday night we went to one of our very favorite places to eat with another couple. I called for reservations and when we got there we were the only ones in the restaurant. Most others were at Minute Maid Park watching the game on big screen or in Sports Bars doing the same and many fans went to St. Louis for the game. When we walked in we were surprised not to see some of the other regulars there. The Astros were playing against the Cardinals and after dinner they told us we were welcome to stay if we wanted to watch the game end. The manager was calling his Mom about every ten minutes telling her that her favorite team was going to the World Series and would end with, "I love you Mom" and hang up. He had such a deep voice and we got tickled at how he was calling his Mom so much, but it sounded so sweet to us gals. He let the kitchen help go home early, locked the doors and we sat there until the game ended and the waitress popped open a bottle of champaign and brought us glasses with strawberries in them and we all celebrated the Astros win. It was a great evening for us and our City. And they told us to come back and do the same next week if we wanted to. Good food, good company, a winning team and a bottle of champaign, which we will probably order to share with them if the Astros win, to return their gracious generosity and hospitality. It will be very sad for us if they lose though. Don't even want to think about that happening. Roger Clemens is an icon in our City and everyone wants to see him retire with a World Series win. We think if they win, he will retire for good, but that is only our opinion and we don't know that as fact. We do know the team has special feelings about his value to them and he respects that. He has had such a long successful career in baseball and Houstonians really love him. We all love winners in our world, but if they lose we will also love them for getting that far and can think there is always next year.

My kitty is tapping me on the shoulder telling me it is time to retire and I am going to...she wants my attention now as we have been away this evening.
