<Why?>

To repeat... because they match up with all the other 'mystics' down through history. We're getting a little circular here... have you read anything from other?? Buddha, Zen, whatever?

<What do you know about His teachings?>

Just read 'em... and have heard and read various comparative commentary by others, including the books I suggested. Of course that's all JMO. You got one {an opinion}?

<You misunderstood my comment. I said "When you run into contradictions you need to either reconcile them (as fundamentalists attempt unsuccessfully to do to show that the bible is inerrant and infallible), or you can simply cherry pick the things that appear Divinely inspired to you and toss out the rest.">

I understand your comment. But you are incorrect. The bible is NOT written by god or Jesus or anyone else of similar authority. It's a compilation of writtings by people who purportedly listened to Jesus {for example}. So why on earth would one assume that one had to take the entire bible {presumably literally??} and assume no contradictions?? I don't get it?

<This means that to justify a contradiction one must advance certain criteria.>

No, just the criteria that different people understand/write/interpret/ whatever differently. HOw many thousands of people were involved in translating, writting, etc etc the bible??? Sorry to ruin your pigionhole view of the bible or "Christian"... you'll have to do a little more work to toss the whole thing out... or put all Christians into one lions den. :))
