You are right, Peter. If she gets as far as hearings (but even in private conversations and visits) the right will be the ones working her over in hopes of getting her to pull out...then they can demand of the President a nominee they will accept. The left will do nothing while this plays out.

I think it is highly unlikely that Republicans will shoot down Bush’s nominee even if they are disappointed.
