Dramatic television video showed one of the bombers driving a cement truck through the concrete blast walls that guard the hotel, then blowing up his vehicle.

This is "4G warfare." They are after publicity. Hotel bombs get full media coverage. After all, thats where the media is.

If you really need scenes of chaos on camera, attacking journalists' hotels is not a bad strategy. OTOH, it will shortly lead to many fewer journalists in the area. It's called chasing short-term profits.
