Saddam was definitely a potential threat. Maybe the #5 biggest in the world. So to say "no never remove him from power by military means" is too dovish. That said, he had nothing to do with 9-11 and had no active WMD program. Which we would have known for sure if we had given the UN inspectors another 3-6 months, which Bush did not want to do. Bush-Cheney actively deceived us by not letting the inspections be finished. They wanted to invade before the evidence could be presented. That is when Kerry spoke out against them. As soon as they did that.

What Kerry understands is that war should only be a last resort, and when you do it, do it smart and do it honest. Because wars are harder to get out of than they are to start.
And war is always hell.

Also, bring in all the help you need and use your allies. In this case that meant a Gulf War type coalition. Bush-Cheney snubbed their noses at many of those potential allies. Because they were in a rush. And they fixed the intel to match their motives.

This isn't about Kerry, it's about Bush-Cheney.
