"Is it really THAT important to label something evil rather than lack of good {light}"

It is important to have a common and constant definition of all terms used in an argument--in this case, any possible explanation that would allow a possible God (as usually defined being omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, and benevolent) to rationally exist when cruel and hurtful things occur daily. Some get around this contradiction of an all-loving God by supposing that God IS cruel, hurtful, and hateful--as well as kind, helpful, and loving. This would account for why God causes earthquakes, ship wrecks, hurricanes, etc.--and lets many serial killers survive disease and death while striking down babies and children with brain tumours and such.

"he must have been of high conciousness

I don't think so. I think his torment was due to his anxiety over his homosexual "sins" and his need to find a dogma that would put his free will under the Absolute authority of a "Father"--and would permit him to earn approval and love. I think he was unable to love himself. JMO, of course.

"You don't "root out" or "cut out" evil like some cancer"

A person can certainly regret the hurtful things they have done and resolve to be less hurtful in the future. This does not undo the harm they have done.

Generally, when people are a threat to the lives and safety of others, we restrain their freedom in a crowbar motel. That is where many of them suddenly claim to be "blinded by the light".

But when they get out--oftentimes that old dark just creeps right back in until the light is as dim as the eye of a one-eyed cat wearing an eye patch over the good eye.

<If you choose good, love, etc... all the shadows disappear.>

It's really like all other energy... always there if you remove the impediments. You don't open the shutters and let the 'dark' in... only a lack of light. You can't turn on the 'dark'. You can't turn on the 'lack of electricity'... there really is no 'offness' brought down the wire, just blockage of the flow. A 'cloudy' day doesn't mean the sun isn't shining, etc. This is what is meant by 'god' is always there... "god forgives everyone for everything, and is still there for you", ever compassionate. You can't 'turn off' god, you chose to ignore god in one way or another and to one extent or another. The less you let in the more 'evil' you would be, but god is still right there by definition. Hence the Buddha said there is only one sin... ignorance... ignoring truth.... god... the way, whatever. To him how it manifested wasn't all that imporant, everyone is different.
