Interesting how the Y chromosome and mitochondria are two different species. A bit like H5N1 and H7N7 are two different species, but if they get together they can work miracles and kill off a billion people.

Of course we think of our male/female human combinations as much more positive and creative.

I'm ignorant about biology, but the little I know is certainly interesting.

Maybe you are right that females are doing a reasonable job of picking the male vectors. Nature cruelly deals with the mistakes they make. One way or another, the 'right stuff' is selected.
