Thanks, Mish - I did not think you cared!

A free trade treaty is a treaty is a treaty, in all its signed details, not a casual discussion about when and if two parties might agree to trade, or not, depending on the arbitrary whims of politicians and the issue at stake.

If the US no longer likes the fundamental dispute settlement mechanisms of NAFTA, then be honest, abrogate the treaty, and negotiate another one. The only problem with even this approach will be to convince Canadians that Americans can be trusted to keep their signed word in future, when they have so blatantly broken it in the past.

I am not normally an angry person (it's usually futile) but US behaviour over NAFTA is beyond politeness. It is hostile and unpleasant behaviour to a friend and neighbour, so let's call it what it is.

Tony.

Mish:

Good commentary and right on the money. As you note, this issue is "clear stupid" for more than one reason.

Best, Earlie
