Agree, it would require opening if well shielded, and defeat
part of the gov purpose.

But I suggest a low cost practical container would be
effective. Just remove the passport when in line and no
way to know you used it.

No doubt a future popular item for those concerned with
info security.

If its so very easy to add shielding to block remote RFID scanning, the passport agency can include it in the passport cover like they have suggested.

My new passport just arrived in the mail. Can anyone tell me how I can tell if it has an RFID chip in it? It doesn't look any different than my last passport issued 10 years ago.
