We pay 3 to 5 times as much as you do for things like eggs, dairy products, and chicken.

I/family split my time between both countries, this is absolutely not true! Our food bills in Vancouver - for equivalent product - are smaller than than they are when we're in Boston or New York. Last gallon of milk I bought in the US was right around $3; 4 litres in Canada is under $3.50 (all prices in local currency).

Pattern is especially true for organics, which are now so prevalent in western Canada that they even come as generic no-names. No-name organic butter...who'd a thunk the day would come?

Are those good subsidized in the USA or just the dairy? And does the dairy subsidy include eggs?
