I would view it as an indication things are not well at home. Rally the people against Israel to cover his problems...

I think things are pretty good in Iran. I think one of the reasons that the "student revolts" and opposition movement in Iran seem to have vanished is due to the high price of oil. As Iran is getting richer, people's lives are improving. They are less inclined to revolt when their stomachs are full.

I think the guy is just a serious hardline, straight talking Islamic fundamentalist and is expressing his actual views.

But the amazing thing is the foolish use of language. He could easily have said he wants the land where the present day Israel and Palestinian territories are located to be a land where all the people have equal rights under the law. Any government or state which denies the people who live under its control equal rights under the law should be swept off the face of the earth. That at least sounds better!
