I track inventory in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. In all three the inventories have grown, but they are still lower than as this time in 2004. I see that Sacramento's inventory has grown faster, but I have no 2004 numbers.

Sacramento
7/15 5393
7/19 5576
7/28 5776
8/1 6007
8/23 6869
9/05 7513
10/03 8461
10/11 8701
10/27 8912

I use realtor.com to get numbers

The big difference is that in 2004 inventory here in Orange County peaked in August and was steadily coming down till July 2005. Now it's steadily going up.

I'll ask my realtor if she has noticed any sharp slowdown. OTOH any slowdown can be labeled as "temporary seasonal" one.

EDIT: Fair to notice that for instance no inventory build up in LV

Las Vegas
7/15 14752
7/19 14856
7/28 14935
8/1 14803
8/23 15040
9/05 14962
10/03 15031
10/10 14984
10/27 15082

Centex Corp. offers discounts on certain homes

NEW YORK, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Centex Corp. (CTX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on Wednesday said it is offering a 5 percent discount plus up to $20,000 in additional incentives on certain homes in its Atlanta market financed through its mortgage unit, CTX Mortgage.

CTX Mortgage will also waive the 1 percent loan origination fee. The price breaks are good on certain homes that are marketed under the names Centex Homes and Fox & Jacobs.

The offer requires the sales to close by Dec. 29.

"It's not necessarily a sign of a problem there," said Avondale Partners analyst Barbara Allen. "It's just that they want to get some inventory through the system in a short time. We have not seen that in the last few years. That is the thing that's different."
