Regardless of what President Bush was thinking when he nominated Harriet Miers, he now has a chance to nominate someone that his base of religious conservative voters are comfortable with. If the left wishes to engage in character assassination and other acts of desperation it will only energize the base. 2006 could deliver the 60 senate votes for cloture.
