I thought I knew where he was going with the analogy when he started, but in the end, I had no idea what he was talking about.

I think he might have been better off just saying, "Hey, if the guy lies during his testimony we don't know what the facts are so we can't determine whether he committed the original crime or not. But we know he commited a crime when he lied."

A lot of people understand that lying under oath is a crime. Not all, of course ;)
