Wilson states plainly that he was sent by the CIA after Cheney made inquiries and wanted someone to check out Niger. He never said he was sent by Cheney. Just that the reason he was sent was because Cheney requested fresh intel on Niger. Cheney had the forged documents and wanted to use them to lie to the people about why we had to rush to war. Little did he know the CIA would send someone very honest and competent, someone brave enough to stand up to a White House which thought it was above the law. The CIA states clearly his wife neither had the power nor the influence to send him. He states this in his op ed today. He was sent by someone in the Directorate Of Operations, the spook wing, where his wife does work as an undercover WMD proliferation agent. And yes she was covert, her ID classified, and now her cover blown, along with other covers and operations she worked on, all dealing with WMD in the Middle East. Who knows what damage this has caused? Wilson was ambassador to two African nations and Iraq. He was highly qualified for the job in Niger. He did it out of patriotism. He is not a pleasant trip to make. He came back with intel and Bush-Cheney stated the opposite to the public. He had reason to be alarmed. Wilson is not a liberal. He was Bush Sr.'s favorite. He gave money to the Bushes. He was the last man out of Baghdad and saved the Human Shield hostages from Saddam. He is a real hero and so is his wife, though her actions are classified. But even if Wilson were what Hannity and the RNC smear him as, some sort of brie and wine ivory tower liberal who wanted a free vacation to Niger (not), who cares? Wilson is not the issue, the White House lying to the public and congress, and why we had to rush into war is the issue. The Wilson affair is just another smear, lie and cover-up, something thie White House does all the time. As Dick Morris says, the real culprit here may be Cheney and he also may be the real target.
