It's been really hard to make sense of this over the last 5 years... But I think the bottom line is that people are so stupid that they mix up Democrat/Republican with actual policy principles.

At the end of the day, it's not if you have a "D" or an "R" tattooed on your forehead, it's all about the policy.

There seem to be a lot of misconceptions these days.....or maybe its always been like that. Its rather funny when righties start screaming that the DEMs are socialists. When I worked for a politician in LA, the socialists in power there hated us for being too conservative........and they were true socialists. My councilman who was very popular was attacked by them 24/7. And of course, they went after me as well. At least they understood what the real differences were between us.

Now I live in a liberal bastion, and yet, the commitment to the capitalistic way of life is alive and well.....in 2001, Seattle had its first recession since 1980. There are not many cities with that kind of economic record. Its surprising to me how many of the local laws favor industry. And that's the way it should be.....you want industry to thrive without hurting the people and the environment.

An enlightened conservative should see it the same way. However, that's not the way the Bushies see it. They have done what they can to emasculate a lot of the environmental laws passed under Clinton. That's why I am surprised when people compare the neocons to liberals.
